![]() ![]() If you wanted to come up with your own solution for V6, check out the import/export class in the Pro plugin folder. I’d like to support KML at some point as well but there are no plans to build this into the initial release. CSV is also supported, however I’d recommend XML. KML allows you to draw points, lines, and polygons on maps and globes and share them with others. If you’re only looking to update once every 6 months or so, and you can wait til August / September for WP Google Maps Version 7, then I have coded a full blown XML importer / exporter that would be a 2 minute job to build into an automatic updater. KML is an XML-based file format used to represent geographic features in applications such as ArcGIS Earth and Google Earth. To display KML on a map, you need to first create the map. If you’d like an example of the CSV layout, please export some test data from the plugin and use the same format as is produced there. Google Earth stands as the best software to view KML files without. I could certainly convert the rest for you given the files. This form will import your GPS data file (e.g., GPX), or plain-text data (tab-delimited or CSV), and create a KML file that you can view in the Google Earth. We do have a beta KML import which only supports markers at the moment. ![]() In addition, Google uses caching there so it can be really quite fast and not too bandwidth intensive. With KML, you can display pretty much everything on a map. I would think you’d hit these limits before you put any serious strain on a server, even on shared hosting. I don’t know if you’re aware but Google has restrictions on the number and size of KML files you can pass to it.
